Work Placement – What is it?

Practical skills for vocational careers aren’t typically taught in the classroom. This is where work placement comes in. Seniors and TAFE students can participate in work placement programs to develop specific career skills.

Those studying Vocational and Educational Training (VET) programs can gain hands-on experience to learn key practical skills for trade and vocational careers. The courses typically include a structured, 2-year work placement with a minimum of 70 hours.

School Leaver Support Program

The School Leaver Support Program at Mid Coast Connect aims to help students who have left school but haven’t started work. The program focuses on providing individual case management, support, and group activities through the Regional VET Pathways Initiative.

Register Now

Funded by the NSW Department of Industry, Skills and Regional Development, the program supports leavers by offering support for education, training, and employment. Including:

  • Individual mentoring: Work with a mentor, one-on-one, to get advice and support with your transition
  • Job search support: Learn where and how to look for the right jobs for you
  • Access and opportunity: Discover resources, programs, and access to training and education specific to your pathway
  • Experience support: Find out about how to gain the necessary experience and skills for specific careers, including traineeships, apprenticeships, and work experience
  • Referrals: Find support and referrals to other support agencies to fit your needs.

Candidates for the School Leaver Support Program must be:

  • 15-19 years old
  • Residents of the mid-north coast region (Nambucca to Great Lakes)
