Career Connect Information for Teachers

Mid Coast Connect has the resources teachers need to provide their students with support as they transition from school to career.

As a teacher, part of your role is often helping young people prepare for the next steps in their life. Preparing students for the workforce and finding a career can be challenging. Not all students are preparing to head to university, and finding ways to provide direction to those taking the alternative path can be tricky. We offer a variety of information, resources, support, opportunities, and events to help educators provide direction to their students.

Career Connect Program

The Career Connect program is a career planning and work readiness program for young people, helping young people looking for training or work. The program focuses on providing individual case management, support, and group activities through the Get Back in the Game Initiative funded by the NSW Department of Education.

The program supports young people by offering education, training, and employment assistance including:

  • Career assessments: Find out about your strengths and potential careers
  • Transition plans: Identify pathways and develop a plan to successfully transition into a career
  • Individual mentoring: Work with a mentor, one-on-one, to get advice and support with your career journey
  • Access and opportunity: Discover resources, activities and programs, and get access to training and education specific to your pathway
  • Job search support: Learn where and how to look for the right jobs for you as well as help with applications, cover letters, resumes and interviews
  • Experience support: Find out how to gain the necessary experience and skills for specific careers, including apprenticeships and traineeships
  • Work Wallet: Get what you need to enter training or work - ID, tax file number, myGov account, USI and more
  • Practical support: Get help with your driver’s licence, work wear and PPE
  • Referrals: Find support and referrals to other support agencies to fit your needs.

The Career Connect Program is available to any young person seeking work or further study who is:

  • 15-21 years of age.
  • Not participating in any other Commonwealth or NSW program which supports youth transition to work or study
AND
  • A resident within our service area (Nambucca Heads to Bulahdelah)
  • Not currently working or working less than 8 hours a week
  • Not enrolled in study/training/disengaged from school
OR
  • Enrolled in and Educational Pathways Program (EPP) participating school
