Teachers

Resources

Mid Coast Connect has the resources educators need to provide their students with support as they transition from school to career.

As a teacher, part of your role is often helping young people prepare for the next steps in their life. Preparing students for the workforce and finding a career can be challenging. Not all students are preparing to head to university, and finding ways to provide direction to those taking the alternative path can be tricky. We offer a variety of information, resources, support, opportunities, and events to help educators provide direction to their students.

Go 2 Work Placement

Go2WorkPlacement

Go2workplacement assists students enrolled in HSC VET courses to get the most out of their work placement. By completing the online modules they will identify specific skills and competencies to focus on during their work placement. On completion of the modules students are awarded a Work Placement Ready Certificate which informs the host employer that they have prepared for work placement.

What is work placement?

Work placement opportunities present students and young people with the chance to gain first-hand experience in a real workplace that will prepare them for future employment. It can be a great way to try on different careers and see how you feel about them, all the while gaining practical skills and experience.

Mid Coast Connect sources work placements from our supportive host employers and works with schools and TAFE to match students with appropriate work placement opportunities.

Work Placement Requirements

Students who are studying in a Vocational and Educational Training (VET) course are typically required to complete a mandatory work placement for a minimum of 70 hours over 2 years. Additionally, students who are TAFE and seniors are able to engage in work placement to help them develop the skills and understanding of various industries.

Mid Coast Connect coordinates work placements for the following VET courses:
  • Automotive
  • Business Services
  • Construction
  • Electrotechnology
  • Entertainment
  • Financial Services
  • Hospitality
  • Human Services
  • Information and Digital Technology
  • Manufacturing and Engineering
  • Primary Industries
  • Retail Services
  • Travel, Tourism, and Events
  • Plumbing
  • Furniture Making
  • Fitness
  • Animal Studies
  • Early Childhood Education and Care
  • Sport Coaching

The coordination of work placement is funded by the State of New South Wales through its Department of Education under the Work Placement Coordination Program and in conjunction with schools administered by Catholic Schools NSW and the Association of Independent Schools of NSW.
